Dr. David Eagle
Keynote Speaker
Dr. David Eagle (www.davideagle.org) is an Associate in Research at the Center for Health Policy and Inequalities Research at Duke University (www.dukechpir.org), and the Duke Global Health Institute (https://divinity.duke.edu/initiatives/clergy-health-initiative). David is an expert on the health of religious clergy, the changing shape of churches in North American society, and the implications of these trends for the professional training of ministers. His research has been published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, the Annals of Behavioral Medicine, the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, Social Networks, the Journal of Social History, the Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, and the Review of Religious Research.
Dr. Joel Thiessen
Dr. Joel Thiessen is a professor of sociology at Ambrose University (https://ambrose.edu/profile/joel-thiessen-phd-ma-ba), and the director of the Flourishing Congregations Institute (https://www.flourishingcongregations.org/). Joel has had two book published, The Sociology of Religion: A Canadian Perspective, with Lorne L. Dawson (Oxford University Press, 2014), and The Meaning of Sunday: The Practice of Belief in a Secular Age (McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2015), and several journal articles, including a forthcoming, co-authored article in the Review of Religious Research titled, “What is a Flourishing Congregation? Leader Perceptions, Definitions, and Experiences.”

Presenters and Facilitators

Dr. Rich Houseal
Dr. Rich Houseal is the director of Research Services for the Church of the Nazarene. 
While much of his research and writing is about the Church of the Nazarene, he is also involved in several interfaith studies and organizations. Rich was a co-editor of the 2010 U.S. Religion Census and he is currently working on the 2020 edition of the study. 
Rich currently serves on the executive board of the Religious Research Association (RRA), and as the secretary/treasurer of the Association of Statisticians of American Religious Bodies.
Dr. Stan Rodes
Stan Rodes serves as Global Clergy Development Administrative Director for the Church of the Nazarene. His role is to guide the preparation, resourcing, and support of Nazarene clergy in partnership with Nazarene leaders around the world. 
He is an ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene and served previously as assistant district superintendent on the Intermountain District following 24 years as pastor to congregations in Corpus Christi, Texas, Greeley, Colorado, and Ontario, Oregon.
He is a graduate of Northwest Nazarene University, Nazarene Theological Seminary (M.Div.), and The University of Manchester, England (Ph.D., Historical Theology). Stan enjoys motorcycling, cycling, golf, writing, and exploring family history. He and his wife, Cindy, have two married children and four grandchildren.
